Welcome to May Mission Month,

As we move from Easter into May Mission Month, I have been thinking about what is the mission?  The first thought that comes to mind is Matthew 28:18-20:

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Is making disciples the mission? A lot of churches and Christian mission agencies seem to think it’s all about saving souls and making the world Christian. But is that really what Jesus was on about?

This May Mission Month, the theme is More Like Jesus. Together, we’ll explore what it means to join in the kind of mission Jesus lived—becoming more like him ourselves, and inviting others, and even the world around us, to do the same.

As I prepared the sermon for last week I came across this brilliant video by Tim Mackie, who is one of the minds behind the Bible Project.  I think it is a great bridge from some of what I was trying to say over Easter and where we are going this month.  I highly recommend it!!

Tim Mackie – What Many Christians Misunderstand About The Bible

We will hear from both our own and a wonderful guest speaker this month and I am very much looking forward to it.

Just to let you all know that I will be taking some time off from May 6th through the 14th to spend time with my daughter.  If you need pastoral care over that time please contact one of the Elders.

See you on Sunday.
