“You see, just at the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5: 6 – 8)
Once again, we observe Anzac Day, a special opportunity for us all to remember and give thanks for those who sacrificed their lives in the service of their country so that we who come after them may enjoy the freedoms that we cherish today. As we do that and without in any way belittling their memory, let us also remember the one who was perfect who laid down his life so that sinners of every nation, culture and generation might find reconciliation with God and receive His gift of eternal life. Our diggers showed true sacrificial service in giving their lives for their country. Jesus, God’s Son shows the extent of God’s sacrificial love for us in dying to save and redeem us. Let us also remember Jesus this ANZAC Day and give thanks with a grateful heart.
