“So I say to you: ‘Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; all who seek find; and to those who knock, the door will be opened.”

What a wonderful promise that Jesus gives here to his followers! But how often do we take him up on the offer? Are we excited by what such a promise could mean to us in our daily lives if we take Jesus at his word or have we become just that little bit complacent, content to get by whatever way we can, in our strength, without putting our trust in him? A previous leader of our church writing some home study notes some years ago hinted at an issue that may dictate the way in which we respond to God’s word. The writer commented: “It may be that we have heard and read these teachings many times, and that they have become so familiar that we have stopped responding to them… So we need to make a deliberate attempt to hear [God’s word] and to try and respond to it as if we are hearing it for the first time.” May God speak to us in a fresh new way today and may we all respond in our hearts to our Lord’s teaching with enthusiasm, joy, and total commitment.
