“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2: 10, 11)
What a contrast! From humility and submission on the cross to glory and sovereignty over all things. This is our Lord Jesus, coming from the very presence of God to dwell as humanity among humanity, dying the most cruel death, and then in triumph being elevated back to the very highest place where he will receive the worship and adoration of the same humanity he died to save. What does this Jesus mean to us today? Is he just a figure of history, remote and irrelevant to our lives today? Or is he a living Saviour, dwelling within us in the power of God’s Holy Spirit, revealing God’s love to us and providing us with not just a great friend but a role model, a lifelong example of how to live, a testimony lived out in us and through us to God’s great purposes and love in action in our world. Are we ready to bow down and surrender at the name of Jesus? May this same Lord Jesus be revealed to everyone in all his might and power as we continue to praise and worship.
