“Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.” (Psalm 86: 1 – 7)
Life doesn’t always work out how want it to. Frustrations, heartaches, disappointments come to all of us at some time. These times today are no exception. How easy it is when this happens to become absorbed in ourselves and our issues and let self-pity and self-doubt take over. The writer here finds hope, he has a rock on whom his life is founded and he shows that he is always ready to turn to God in times of need, because God has proved and shown Himself to me a merciful, loving, caring God. He has an assurance that God will hear and answer prayer. God has not changed, and He never will. He will meet our need just as surely as he met the needs of that ancient writer, all those centuries ago.
